John Walter, Dean of the School of Technology and the School of Applied Science and Engineering at Ivy Tech Community College, will be conducting a tour of the Steel Dynamics Inc., Keith E. Busse Technology Center. The Tech Center houses the following programs: advanced manufacturing, automotive, building construction management, construction, design, industrial, machine tool, pre-engineering, and engineering technology.

Tour notes: If you own safety glasses, please bring them to this tour. There are no open toe shoes allowed on the tour. We will meet in room TC1225. The Tech Center is located on the North Campus of Ivy Tech, this if off of St. Joseph Road, across from the IPFW campus.
 

TekVenture’s Chain Reaction Challenge

Stop by the Maker Station located in the Allen County Public Library (ACPL) lot.  You’ll see how creative and innovative people use a variety of tools needed to turn ideas into reality.  While searching for a permanent facility TekVenture, in partnership with the ACPL, created the Maker Station in a 50’. mobile classroom provided Ivy Tech.  The TekVenture Maker Station located in the ACPL parking lot at Ewing St. and Jefferson Blvd. is equipped with digital fabricating and rapid prototyping tools.  55 library staff members have toured the new facility and the first workshops open to the public begin next week.  Folks are also invited to stop by Maker Meet-ups every Thursday evening at 7:00 PM, but equipment use is limited to Maker Members.  Visit  for initial access hours and Maker Member fees.  Call 260.421-1374 to schedule a tour or appointment.
 

NE IN CREATEfest

March 13th through 15th at Lawrence North High School in Northeast Indianapolis

Jade Parsons from Lawrence North High School in Northeast Indianapolis is soliciting assistance in the school’s CREATEfest in March.

An excerpt of Jade’s request, “ CREATEfest is an annual event at Lawrence North High School that helps support and encourage student creativity across all disciplines while getting the community involved. Last year we had over 1,000 students and community members participate in over 25 workshops and events.

I am contacting you in hopes that those at Fort Wayne Engineer's Club would love to find a way to support CREATEfest through community connections that could provide both content and financial support for the event. In addition, I know you were not a supporter last year and this is a good chance to educate and inspire by providing an opportunity for attendees. Here is a bit of background on the festival as to get you a better idea of how Fort Wayne Engineer's Club could be such a valuable supporter.

CREATEfest is all about Creatively Revealing Everyone's Aspirations, Talents and Energies by helping both high school students and the community at large (our school district and others in the local area) discover, express and embrace their individual creativity...because everyone is creative in some way. The mission of CREATEfest is to empower members of the community to use their creativity to shape the future. CREATEfest will serve to change the question from "Am I creative?" to "How am I creative?"

CREATEfest will take place during the school days of March 13-15. During the school day, CREATEfest will be formatted as a series of activities/presentations that teachers can sign up for to have their classes attend. These workshops will be hosted by community members in different fields sharing how they use creativity in their work or hobbies. Each workshop will have two elements: (1) an introduction to a type of creative thinking in the form of a presentation and (2) a hands-on experience for attendees to "try out" or apply such creative thinking.

Please let me know if you are interested as soon as possible. I would love to have a half hour to an hour long interactive presentation about creativity in engineering.”

NE IN Engineers Week

The Northeast Indiana Engineers’ Week is February 19th– 25th.  The FWEC along with other engineering related professional societies will be sponsoring academic awards for local/regional engineering students.  The Northeast Indiana Engineers’ Week banquet is February 25th.  For more information please go to the Northeast Indiana Engineers’ Week website (indiana-eweek.org).
 

Science Central 3 Rivers Festival Float

In the past the FWEC membership has supported Science Central (sciencecentral.org) in the design and build of their 3 Rivers Festival (threeriversfestival.org) float.  We’re looking for interested club members to support this effort.  The FWEC will be supporting Science Central and NE IN STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in creating a float representing the 3RF theme, landmarks and legends.  The landmark will be Science Central and we’re hoping to add local science, engineering, and technology legends.  Dan Delaney is the FWEC project lead.  Please respond to FortWayneEngineersClub@Yahoo.com with interest.  There will be a meeting in March for interested parties to attend and plan involvement.
 

Upcoming Tours

The FWEC is planning a tour of Valbruna Stainless in March.  We’re also investigating National Serv-All’s recycling facility and another visit to the Air National Guard.
