Founded in 1985 Blackstone Laboratories (www.blackstone-labs.com) is an industry leader in oil analysis.  They analyze all types of oil from engines, aircraft, and industrial equipment.  Oil analysis is a good tool to use for predicting maintenance; problems can generally be found long before they are a cause of failure, allowing repairs to be made without extensive downtime.

Blackstone Labs will be providing pizza, pop, and Mad Anthony’s beer, so please bring you appetite as well as your interest to this tour.

Blackstone is located close to the corner of Pettit Ave. and Lafayette St. across from Southgate Plaza.  If you take Lafayette St. to Pettit Ave., turn East and Blackstone is the first big blue building on the right.  Parking is either behind the lab or in Tire Barn’s lot.

Thursday, September 22nd, 7:30 P.M. EDT
Rescheduled for Thursday September 29th at 7:30

Due to the size of the FWEC membership for this tour the Fort Wayne Astronomical Society will be accepting donations for this tour.  The recommended donation is $1.  Please show them that the FWEC supports science and engineering in our area and be generous with the tour donation.

We are trying to get an informal head count to the Fort Wayne Astronomical Society.  If attending please RSVP to Ryan Stark at FortWayneEngineersClub@yahoo.com.

The Fort Wayne Astronomical Society is a not-for-profit organization, incorporated in 1959, for the purpose of public education in Astronomy and related sciences. The Society conducts public observing sessions at its observatory every clear Saturday evening, from April through November, conducted by trained and experienced Society members. Public observing starts 1-hour after sunset and continues for two hours. The Society observatory was started in 1961 and completed and opened to the public in 1963. It was located north of Fort Wayne, on DuPont Road. Creeping light pollution from street and security lights caused skies to become less than desirable and in 1978, it was moved to Fox Island County Park.

NOTE: This tour is limited to 20 people, so if you are interested in attending please contact Ryan Stark, 260-456-0809, or Contact Us.

Please call or email to get on the list – we need a final count two weeks before the game. Contact Ryan Stark, 260-456-0809 or Contact Us.

Chain Reaction 4TekVenture Announces Chain Reaction Challenge 4
April 30, 2011
(Event Flier)

“To Infinity and Beyond” is the theme for the Fourth-Annual Chain Reaction Challenge brought to you by TekVenture, the not-for-profit organization planning to build a public art and technology laboratory in the near-downtown Fort Wayne area.

On Saturday April 30, 2011, teams of up to 6 people will again assemble in the Great Hall of the Allen County Public Library downtown in order to put their ingenuity to the test.  Teams will join their individual “Links” to form Fort Wayne’s Fourth-Annual Community Chain Reaction.

New this year is the addition of a three-foot novice-size entry for those new to the Challenge.

People of all ages are welcome to participate either by forming a team or by coming to view these one-of-a-kind contraptions combining creativity, imagination, teamwork, and just plain fun.

To encourage participation, all are invited to attend a free informational workshop at the downtown library on Saturday, March 19 - from 2pm - 4pm.  A sample link will be demonstrated and construction ideas discussed.

A minimal $20 advance registration fee for a team of four up to $30 for a team of six must accompany registration forms.  Space is limited to 20 Links so teams must register early!

Awards will be given to the teams with the most complex Link in the Chain, the Link using the most recycled objects, and the People’s Choice Award, among others.

Last spring, TekVenture brought you "Building a Better Mousetrap" at the Downtown Allen County Public Library with the Third Annual Chain Reaction Challenge.  Ten locally-built, elaborately complicated, award-winning machines linked to, then triggered, Purdue University’s Rube Goldberg machine.  Teams comprised of home school students, families, business people, and friends were joined by a crowd of over 500 to celebrate creative tinkering!

The TekVenture Chain Reaction Challenge is a continuing "coming out party" for TekVenture and we ask the public to help us make it a reality.  Contributions of time, materials, and sponsorship are being sought in order to offer the Chain Reaction Challenge at a minimum cost to participants.

We again challenge the community to help us build TekVenture, a destination for programming like the Chain Reaction Challenge, and for people who want to engage tools, materials, media and mentors to give form to their great ideas and make things!

Visit www.TekVenture.org to learn more about TekVenture, Inc., to register a team for the TekVenture Chain Reaction Challenge 4, to sponsor, or to get involved in some other way.
